Radiation hardness studies of cooling fluids epoxies and capacitors for CMS pixel system

چکیده
Radiation hardness studies of C6F14 Fluorinert (FC72) fluid, some epoxies and tantalum capacitors were studied for the Compact Muon Solenoidal (CMS) experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN. For a successful operation of Forward Silicon Pixel Tracker of the CMS, the cooling fluid, epoxies to be used and the filter capacitors of bias voltage supplies need to be radiation hard. It was also necessary to find out whether the cooling fluid would dissociate under the expected fluence and damage beryllium cooling channels of the Forward Silicon Pixel Discs. This paper is a report of our findings from the performed tests. r 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The PLT: A Luminosity Monitor for CMS Based on Single-Crystal Diamond Pixel Sensors
The Pixel Luminosity Telescope (PLT) system is an innovative luminosity monitor being developed as an early upgrade for the CMS detector at the LHC. An essential feature of the PLT is the use of single crystal diamond, grown by chemical vapor deposition, as the active sensor material. The radiation hardness of diamond, along with its lack of need for active cooling, are key to the design and fu...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation of Heat Transfer Enhancement in a Finned U-Shaped Heat Pipe of CPU Cooling System Using Different Fluids
This paper experimentally studies the heat absorption performance of a heat sink with vertical embedded heat pipes in the aluminum blade. The cooling system with embedded heat pipes distributes heat from the CPU to both the base plate and the heat pipes, and then transfer heat from fins to the Environment. The thermal resistance and heat transfer coefficient are evaluated for natural convection...
متن کاملThe LHCb Upgrade from 1 to 40 MHz readout
The LHCb experiment at the LHC will upgrade its detector to take data at luminosities of above 1033 cm−2s−1 from 2018 onwards. The fully upgraded detector will use a new front-end electronics to readout collision events at 40MHz. A new fully software based trigger will be implemented and will increase the trigger efficiencies, specially in the hadronic decay channels. The silicon vertex detecto...
متن کاملCMS Tracker Upgrade for HL-LHC: R&D Plans, Present Status and Perspectives
During the high luminosity phase of the LHC (HL-LHC), the machine is expected to deliver an instantaneous luminosity of 5× 10 cm−2s−1. A total of 3000 fb−1 of data is foreseen to be delivered, with the opening of new physics potential for the LHC experiments, but also new challenges from the point of view of both detector and electronics capabilities and radiation hardness. In order to maintain...
متن کاملRadiation experience with the CMS pixel detector
The CMS pixel detector is the innermost component of the CMS tracker occupying the region around the centre of CMS, where the LHC beams are crossed, between 4.3 cm and 30 cm in radius and 46.5 cm along the beam axis. It operates in a high-occupancy and high-radiation environment created by particle collisions. Studies of radiation damage effects to the sensors were performed throughout the firs...
